A Brief Introduction to Jishou University

Founded in 1958, Jishou University operates across the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Zhangjiajie City in Hunan Province. It is a comprehensive university directly under the administration of Hunan Province and the only comprehensive university in the Wuling Mountain region. The university is jointly sponsored by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. It is authorized to confer doctoral degrees, qualified to recommend students for master's degree programs without entrance examinations, a "Double First-Class" construction university in Hunan Province, and a high-level university under construction in Hunan Province.
The university offers a full range of academic disciplines. It comprises 23 teaching colleges, 49 first-level disciplines, and 75 undergraduate programs covering 11 major disciplinary categories. It has 5 provincial key disciplines (including 1 advantageous and distinctive key discipline), 1 provincial first-class construction discipline, 1 provincial first-class cultivation discipline, 2 key disciplines under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and 5 disciplines supporting leading industries in Hunan Province. The university has 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations and 1 "Postdoctoral Research Mobile Station Collaborative R&D Center." It offers 3 first-level doctoral degree programs, 18 first-level master's degree programs, and 20 categories of professional master's degree authorization. There are 3 nationally recognized distinctive undergraduate majors, 1 national undergraduate program comprehensive reform pilot major, and 1 "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" major. The university has 36 first-class undergraduate program construction points, of which 16 are national-level, and 84 first-class undergraduate courses, of which 11 are national-level. It also has more than 60 national and provincial-ministerial teaching and research platforms, including a National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, a National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and a National Engineering Practice Education Center.
The university currently has more than 1,800 faculty and staff members, including over 650 with senior professional titles and over 900 doctoral and master's supervisors. Among them are 12 recipients of the State Council Special Government Allowance, 1 "National New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talent Project" national-level candidate, 4 recipients of the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program," 1 Cultural Celebrity and "Four Batches of Talents" Project recipient, 1 National Ethnic Affairs Commission Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Expert on Ethnic Issues, and 59 recipients of various provincial honors including the Hunan "121 Talent Project," Hunan Provincial Government Special Allowance, Huxiang Youth Talent Program, Hunan Furong Scholars, Huxiang High-Level Talent Gathering Project, Hunan Trans-Century Academic Leaders, Hunan Furong Teaching Masters, and Hunan Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Experts. The university has 1 "National University Huang Danian-style Teacher Team," 1 "Hunan Provincial University Huang Danian-style Teacher Team," and 3 provincial-level scientific and technological innovation teams. It also has 1 National Advanced Educator, 7 National Outstanding Teachers, 1 National Advanced Individual in Teachers' Ethics, 1 National Model Teacher, 1 recipient of the Xu Teli Education Award, 1 recipient of the Zeng Xianzi Education Fund Award, and 1 recipient of the Baosteel Education Fund Award.
The university currently enrolls 36,000 full-time students, forming a complete talent cultivation system covering junior college, preparatory, undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. The university has built a "Character Education" system centered on "curriculum guidance, environmental influence, practical training, and self-shaping." Students are known for their strong hands-on abilities and extensive social practice activities. They have repeatedly won Special Prizes and First Prizes in competitions such as the China "Internet+" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the National "Challenge Cup" College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. The university places great emphasis on serving local economic and social development, undertaking a large number of major national and local research projects, and has developed distinctive features in academic research. Social science research focuses on ethnic traditional sports, ethnic ecological culture, ethnic history, and regional economy. Research achievements in ethnology, anthropology, ethnic art, Shen Congwen studies, cultural and creative industries, tourism economy, rural revitalization, and regional poverty reduction and development have had significant influence both domestically and internationally. The university houses the Liye Qin Bamboo Slips Research Institute. Natural science research centers on the development, utilization, and protection of characteristic resources in the Wuling Mountain region. The university has proposed the "Three Belts" theory and developed varieties such as the "Miliang No. 1" kiwifruit and the "Xiangji" seedless kiwifruit. It has achieved a series of influential research results in agricultural and aquatic products represented by eucommia, kiwifruit, and giant salamander, as well as in mineral products, machinery, electronic information, and other fields. The university also operates the Jishou University Science and Technology Park.
The university has cultural venues including the Huang Yongyu Art Museum, the Shen Congwen Memorial Hall, and the Wuxi Academy. It has been approved as a "National Science Education Base," a "National Humanities and Social Sciences Popularization Base," a "Hunan Provincial Patriotism Education Base," and a "Hunan Provincial Youth Education Base."
The university is qualified to enroll international students as well as students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It has established cooperative exchanges with dozens of universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Australia, and other countries, as well as in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It implements international cooperation and exchange programs including faculty overseas study and research, as well as student overseas exchange and study-abroad programs.
The university has successively been awarded honorary titles such as "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress" and "National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee." Leaders of the Party and the State, including Zhu Rongji, Zeng Qinghong, Wei Jianxing, Jia Qinglin, and Liu Yunshan, have visited the university for inspection and guidance. Former Premier Zhu Rongji highly praised Jishou University as "the pride of Hunan." Former Vice President Zeng Qinghong affirmed that "Jishou University holds special value." Enrollment Targets and Requirements
1. Applicants must be citizens of countries along the "Belt and Road" partner countries, aged 18 or above, holding a valid passport, and currently not studying in Hunan Province;
2.Applicants must be in good health, of good conduct, friendly toward China, with no criminal record, and willing to comply with the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the university, as well as respect the customs and habits of the Chinese people;
3.Priority will be given to applicants with a certain foundation in Chinese language.

Reqiurement:The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigner. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. HIV and VDRL(syphilis) are required items. The physical examination conclusion should have the words "healthy". The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months.

Note: Within one week of receiving the pre-admission notice, scholarship students are required to prepay a total of RMB 2,100 for accommodation fee and insurance; this amount will be refunded in the form of scholarship upon arrival. Half-scholarship students are required to prepay half of the tuition fee, totaling RMB 6,000. Self-financed students are required to pay the full tuition fee plus accommodation fee, totaling RMB 13,300 (the student category and the required prepayment amount will be specified in the pre-admission notice issued by the university). Failure to make the payment within the deadline will be regarded as forfeiture of admission. For all categories of students, the prepaid fees will not be refunded if the student voluntarily gives up the admission.
Scholarships
The university offers the following scholarships:
1.Jishou University Scholarship for Language Students from Countries along the "Belt and Road": Each year, the university provides outstanding students with a full scholarship of RMB 15,000, or a scholarship covering half of the tuition fee (RMB 6,000) plus exemption of the accommodation fee.
2.Other Scholarships: Students who pass HSK Level 4 or above during their study period will receive a reward of RMB 2,000 per person.
